“Follow me.”

Gospel mk 2:13-17: Jesus went out along the sea. All the crowd came to him and he taught them. As he passed by, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus, sitting at the customs post. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed Jesus. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners sat with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many who followed him. Some scribes who were Pharisees saw that Jesus was eating with sinners and tax collectors and said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”  Jesus heard this and said to them, “Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

 

Refection question: Do I take time each day to pray that the word of God may be calling me to places I may not like venturing towards? Do I trust the Lord to let him lead and guide me when I resist his calling through the voice of family and friends? Today I will pray that my heart and soul would be open to Him alone.
 

Prayer: Lord God, help me to be open to whomever and whatever you are calling me to be in life. Help me to resist unnecessary worries when it comes to my future. Help me to lean on you and others whom you have placed in my life that they would help me towards you alone. Amen.

“We have never seen anything like this.”

Gospel mk 2:1-12: When Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days, it became known that he was at home. Many gathered together so that there was no longer room for them, not even around the door, and he preached the word to them. They came bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. Unable to get near Jesus because of the crowd, they opened up the roof above him. After they had broken through, they let down the mat on which the

paralytic was lying. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to him, “Child, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there asking themselves, “Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming. Who but God alone can forgive sins?” Jesus immediately knew in his mind what  they were thinking to themselves,  so he said, “Why are you thinking such things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, pick up your mat and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on earth”–he said to the paralytic, “I say to you, rise, pick up your mat, and go home.” He rose, picked up his mat at once, and went away in the sight of everyone. They were all astounded and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”

 

 

Refection question: When was the last time you gathered with people to just be with them without the distractions of the world, e.g., phone, computer, tablets?

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to spend more time with those in need. Let me begin today to be astounded by the gifts that surround me in the common everyday moments of life. Thank you Jesus for my family, and friends who surround me in love. Amen.
